Samsung SC-D382 MiniDV camcorder review

This is an altogether unimpressive entry-level MiniDV digital camcorder from Samsung. Although I’m not expecting miracles from a budget-priced camcorder, I at least hope it would compare favorably with the analog camcorders of yesteryear, and it doesn’t. In low light conditions, the image is noisy and the colors are severely washed out. Plus, the microphone picks up a lot of background noise from the camcorder itself, including an annoying whistle. It may fare better in bright outdoor scenes, but in quiet indoor settings, such as where I make the majority of my videos, it just doesn’t cut it.

    Actually, all …
Actually, all MiniDV cameras are bound to have that motor sound in all videos. If you go for a 3 ccd panasonic avg models, you hear it, but once on an xlr mic, you hear no noise at all.

Look in the owner’s manual. There should be a button or menu option to turn off the on-screen displays.

When transferring, how can you remove the display? [I mean the timer, battery, how much time left on tape, etc.]

    I have this exact …
I have this exact same camcorder and it seems to take good quality video outdoors, but I have two BIG complaints about this camcorder: if it’s totally silent, you can hear the camera’s motor, and the camera’s microphone picks it up. Secondly, it is horrid in low-light conditions, and there’s nothing you can do about it (although it does have a light and a mickey mouse nightshot mode), the camera makes images very grainy and washed-out, even though the lux rating is 3.

    No, the Samsung is …
No, the Samsung is just a poor camcorder. Sure, it “works” fine — as in it produces an image with sound — but the quality is definitely on the very low end of the scale. Even in the same low-budget price class, Canon and JVC camcorders perform much better.

It is a MiniDV camcorder so it uses a FireWire cable to transfer video to the computer, not USB. You can use an analog video capture device connected to its composite video output.

for better picture quality, you can change the white balance according to the lighting. Plus, mine is fine, it doesn’t make all that background noise.
