I am in the market for a new camera/camcorder. A friend of mine has a camera that can record video too. I am curious if there are any sony or samsung or kodak camcorders that are small but can take pictures as well. I am hoping for a black one too.

There is a Sanyo for $300 that is a 5 MP still camera and a video to SD that might fill the bill, although zoom is limited compared to most camcorders.
Camcorders only need 2/3 of a Mega Pixel for a SD video image so a bigger CCD is overkill and they charge through the nose for that feature for stillphotos.
Almost every still camera takes 640 video (camcorders do 720 video) but only a few save in AVI format, while most save in Apple Quicktime MOV which won’t import into free editing programs.
Only the higher end (above $150) allow you to zoom as you shoot.
